How to do the tandem jump
Briefing, preparation, etc.
Briefing
When you arrive at the jump site, you register in the manifest. You will meet your instructor and also the cameraman if you have ordered filming of the jump. The instructor will go through the tandem jump with you. He will also go through some simple safety rules. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. You will also be asked to sign the health and liability declaration, confirming that you are in good health and that you understand the risks involved in tandem skydiving.
On the way to the aircraft
Before the flight, you, your instructor and the other jumpers will gather in the pen, a marked area next to the taxiway. While you wait for the plane to take off or land, the order in which everyone in the plane will jump off is determined. You as a tandem crew always jump last because you will deploy the parachute higher than the others, 1,500 meters instead of 900 meters. This is so that you can enjoy the view for a longer period of time.
You are flying!
In the free fall, which lasts almost a minute, you reach a speed of just over 200 km/h. This speed is slowed down somewhat by the fact that you have a small brake parachute that allows you to fall at the same speed as normal skydivers. With twice your weight, you would otherwise fall at over 300 km/h. By using your arms and legs as rudders, the instructor can make you turn and move so that you and the videographer can fly around each other.
Landing
Before landing, pull up your legs as you have practiced on the ground. This is so that the tandem pilot can land safely.
Bring the adventure home
Now you have to try to explain to your family, colleagues, friends and acquaintances what it was like to go skydiving. Of course, it will be easier to explain and remember if you have the jump videotaped. It's well worth the money!
Preparations
Take the opportunity to go to the toilet because after the briefing you put on overalls, helmet and safety glasses that you can borrow from us. If you have glasses, you only get a pair of larger goggles. You will also be helped to put on the harness that will be connected to the parachute and your instructor. When you jump, you will hang in front of the instructor, on his stomach.
4 000 meters - time to jump out!
Together with the other jumpers, you fly up to 3,500-4,000 meters above the ground. This means a flight of about 20 minutes. Once you have reached jump height, the plane flies towards the airfield and the airplane door opens. It can be up to 20 degrees colder than on the ground, but the adrenaline can make it barely noticeable. From now on, you have only one task: to experience and enjoy!
The plane empties and finally it's your turn to jump out!
The parachute
Once you have fallen to 1,500 meters, the instructor will activate the parachute. It takes a few seconds for the parachute to fully deploy and this makes the deceleration quite soft. It twitches slightly. Now you slowly head back to the airfield. Maybe you see your friends waiting below? Enjoy the view and the sight of your own feet dangling with nothing but air beneath them. The paragliding flight takes between 5-10 minutes depending on how much you swing.
